What is a jib crane?
A jib crane has a horizontal arm (the boom) that swings around a column or a wall bracket. A hoist runs along the arm, so the operator can lift and place loads anywhere inside the circle the arm covers. It suits jobs where a full overhead crane would be too much, such as feeding a machine or loading a truck bay.

How to choose the right jib crane
- Capacity at the full length of the arm.
- Reach: arm length from the column centre to the furthest lifting point.
- Slewing angle and whether rotation should be manual or motorised.
- Mounting: a pillar needs a foundation; a wall bracket needs a column strong enough to take the moment.
- Hook height under the arm.
- Hoist type: chain hoist for light loads, wire rope hoist for heavier or faster lifting.
